About ‘Parting of the Red Sea’
This piece reminds me of another old testament story: the Crossing of the Red Sea. In this biblical tale, Moses holds out his staff and the Red Sea is parted by God, forming a path for the Israelites to escape from the pursuing Egyptian army. Once the Israelites have safely crossed the parted sea, Moses lifts his arms again, the sea closes, and the Egyptians are drowned, saving the Israelites during their exodus. For me, the vibrant blues and whites of this piece remind of the tearing waves that are often shown in imagery of this story. The rich copper is the path which formed, then was later engulfed by the sea as Moses lifted his arms once again to save the Israelites.
